The time was right to take a break

I’m sure no one noticed, but I took a break last week.

It was mine and my son’s birthdays and we had a weekend away planned with good friends, the first in nearly a year. So we packed up the car, and headed up the roads to Center Parcs, and had an absolute whale of a time (check out the gratuitous pool photo below!).

But after a restorative and enjoyable break, I had every intention to get straight back into writing and filming straight away. I’d even scheduled posts for while I was away with tools like Buffer so it was seamless. But the detectives amongst you will realise that it didn’t go down like that.

I really struggled with motivation when I got back…

I found it difficult to get back into writing, and struggled with what to film. I also really struggled getting back into my habits that had taken a couple of days break (like reading & Twitter). There was just so little motivation to do any of it.

But then, I saw the below and something clicked again

This was never going to be an extended break, I’m 100% in this for the long run. But, I must admit that I was surprised by how hard it was for me to get back into the swing of things.

I always knew the motivation would return, but actually that little break was really good for me. It helped me unwind and relax properly for the first time in ages. I got to completely cut off from things, and spend some quality time with my family ad friends. Not always the easiest of things to do during a pandemic.

I also reconnected with the work I love (truly!), and get excited for creating once again. My schedule has been knocked off its axis somewhat, but hey, I’m just going to roll with it. There’s no point fighting it, I can’t change it, so let’s just accept it and move on. Done is better than perfect, right??

I didn’t realise how much I needed a little break, but I have definitely learnt not to leave it so long next time.

But for now, let’s crush this!!
