We’ve all got our systems and tools that keep us going. Our panning and project management systems to keep the content cycle going. But we all need that support from someone from time to time. And that is why:
We should all be supporting our fellow creators
Uncompromising, all encompassing support, because we all know that we’ve needed it ourselves at some time.
Now, in some circumstances these fellow creators may be similar to you, they may operate in the same niche or use similar platforms. But that doesn’t matter. You can still be supportive, encouraging and even friendly. Who knows, you may be able to learn from one another, collaborate even.
In my previous years, I managed a restaurant and big boutique hotel opened just around the corner from us. Naturally we were competitors in a business sense with similar styles chasing after similar clientele.
At first it was unnerving, but we soon realised that we couldn’t concentrate on them for too long, as we’d be taking our eye off our own game.
But later, it became apparent that we could benefit so much by working together, supporting one another. And guess what? There was more than enough business around for us to both survive.
And it worked.
We’d recommend them, and they’d recommend us. We built a joint clientele list that enhanced our offering and attracted similar operators to the area.
Now, that’s not to say that we didn’t compete, of course we did. But it didn’t have to be nasty, we weren’t the Jets and the Sharks!
And that’s the same with creating.
We can support one another, promote each other’s work, give constructive feedback. Because in short, if someone like’s their work, there is a greater chance of them liking yours too. We can also learn from one another, see what works and what doesn’t. I also find it really helpful to have something or someone to aspire to.
So let’s support one another, celebrate the wins, offer kind words of advice and be the person that we all want in our corner.
