A shortcut to getting your site’s SEO sorted

One thing that I hadn’t quite got around to yet was getting to grips with the Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) for this site. It sounds big and scary, and it essentially means that search engines like google can find your site and the relevant pages. All in all, a pretty big deal really…

So, today was the day I took the plunge and dived into it head first to start getting it sorted. I started off by reading this article from the guys at wpbeginner.com. I find their style of writing really easy to understand and they break things down into managale chunks that even I can complete.

It started off by making sure the the basics were completed, and that my site could be found b search engines and alike. I then updated the permalink settings, which in hindsight makes perfect sense. Who knows what post 23875 is about, but now the post title is linked to the name. Simple when you know how…

Now, I started to look at the specific pages and posts in a bit more detail. I’ve always had Yoast SEO installed on my theme, but never really found it that easy to work with. I made the decision to deactivate this plugin in and went for All In One SEO (AIOSEO) instead. They had great reviews and were recommended by the above article.

I downloaded the plugin, hit activate and immediately found myself at a setup wizard that walked me through the steps that needed completing. So far so good, and it really made each step very clear and concise what we were doing and why. You can even import f the SEO information that was previously used meaning that you don’t have to completely start from scratch.

What I love about AIOSEO is that they have an overall SEO Site Score that completes a site wide audit. This highlights all of the single posts, pages and items that need your attention. It’s then really easy to go into each of those items and rectify the issues to improve your score.

I’m a long way off being perfect, but I’ve already managed to improve my SEO score to nearly 80%, which is a damn sight better than it was.

If you’re running a WordPress site/blog I would definitely recommend using AIOSEO to improve you SEO rating quickly, efficiently (and more importantly) easily.
