Music has the power to inspire and move so many people.
You only have to look at sites like musicnotes.com to see the impact that music can have. And not only on musicians, but people from all walks of life. Philosophers, artists and scientists all revel in their love for music.
But, what impact would it have on a YouTube video?
As you know, I am a firm believer that creators should continue to consume, and I’ve noticed recently that a fair few of my favourite YouTubers do have music in the background. Now, I’m not saying that it is the main focus, or even something that your pay a huge amount of attention to.
But, it certainly seems to do a decent job of filling some of the natural voids.
When editing my videos, I find myself getting rid of every pause or natural break. And I’m not sure if I like this, but it’s certainly better than the deafening silence for a second or two. But would some nice background music break those, and make the videos flow a bit more naturally?
How can I do this?
So, I’ve started looking around at options for royalty free music, and came across Uppbeat
Uppbeat is the world’s first freemium music platform for creators, but our mission runs deeper than that. We’re building a community that connects creators and musicians in a way that elevates and empowers both sides. Unlike many other music services, which buy their music catalogs and cut musicians out of control and future payments, Uppbeat’s artists keep total ownership of their music and get paid through our ethical revenue share model.

Now, this looks pretty interesting to me. I can access up to 10 tracks for free per month. This give me a good opportunity to look at the service, check out the music and see if it works for me. If things go well, there is also a premium account that you can upgrade to.
Obviously there are a number of other services around, like Epidemic Sound, but I love that Upbeat was designed with YouTube in mind.
The music element is something that I’ve been quite interested in recently, and think it will just help to make my videos a bit more professional looking (or maybe sounding). I’m always trying to up my production quality to improve the feel of my videos. These are the things that I can control quickly, hence why I’m trying to up my game.
I want my videos to feel natural and easy, but I’m still developing my personal style.
That said, I am a bit nervous that the music will take away from the actual content I’m delivering. This is just something I need to be aware of, and make sure that i choose the type of music wisely. I also need to make sure that I choose a decent volume level so not to be a distraction either.
Either way, it’s another lesson to learn and step towards improving my channel
