It’s all too easy to get your head buried in learning, writing, recording or whatever format your creation is.
But one thing that can be easily overlooked is to continue consuming. One reason I decided to take the plunge with creating digital content is because I love it so much. So, why would I then stop consuming it?
Not only is the act of consuming entertaining, it is also a great way to learn from people that you admire.
I have learnt so much from watching and reading the people I admire. And when I need a break from writing or planning in some way, getting into YouTube is a great way to productively use my downtime. Now, obviously there is nothing wrong with switching off completely, but if you enjoy it and learn something surely that’s pretty amazing?
So without further ado, below is a list of my favourite content creators, and why I love them.
Ali Abdaal
Ali is the real initiator of my love for YouTube.
I remember watching one of his videos of Notability on the iPad years ago, and I’ve used it ever since. His knowledge and delivery are great, but I’ve also learned that it’s ok to just sit down and talk. I’m still building my knowledge on editing, so for me I don’t need to spend hours making the glitzy intros etc.
Thomas Frank
Thomas has such great way of delivering videos, and really makes me feel at ease when I tune in.
He offers a little more production value that some, and that is definitely something that I can aspire to. Importantly, all of his videos are underpinned by an impressive amount of knowledge and references to support his views.
Matt D’Avela
Full of productivity and minimalist tips, Matt has a real sincerity that comes across in his videos.
While his shooting style may feel like a journey (sometimes physically) it’s still an easy story to follow. Matt has so many systems in place to support him, but some of these are low tech. So, you don’t need the latest tech or apps, always remember that the system is more important than the tool.
MKBHD
Marques is all about production quality, and it is simply impressive.
His exploration of the world of tech is unrivalled, and his knowledge is second to none. But, he makes it so easy to understand. You don’t have to have the same knowledge set as him to get what he is talking about. You can simply sit back and enjoy the videos, while learning something completely new.
DailyTekk
I love Chris‘ enthusiasm for Apple products and what can be done with them.
He make everything so easy to understand, and really manages to dig up apps and products that you wouldn’t find by yourself. I’ve learnt that it is important to find your niche and stick to it, as people will keep returning for more.
Sean Cannell
You’d struggle to find anyone with as much energy as Sean.
His passion literally bursts out, and you can’t help but get swept along with him. He has a real easy way of talking to you and guiding you through all of the points he wants to get across. This is also where 90% of my tech setup knowledge has come from including audio, camera and lighting tips.
The great thing about content is that is every evolving, and more is coming out all the time, and I’m always keeping an eye out for someone new to follow.
