I have recently fallen in love with Peter McKinnon.
And there isn’t just one thing, it’s his style, his personality, his intro (bwhatsupp!!), literally everything about him is why I started watching YouTube, and I can’t believe it has taken me this ling to find his videos!. Now, we may not have the most amount of crossover in terms of content, but he is one person that I really aspire to be like in terms of style.
And because of him, and his video ‘How to Vlog’ (below),I have recently been toying with the idea of vlogging.
Now, don’t get me wrong, the bulk of my videos will remain as talking head guides about productivity and creativity systems and tools. But the Vlog just seems like such a pure and approcahble style. That’s not to say that you can’t fill with great b-roll, or other details, but I just like the idea of simplifying my topic.
I mean let’s face it, everyone who wants to be productive has a reason why. That may be to spend time with your family & friends, or it may be to get in your side hustle. So, I want my style to be as simple and understandable as possible, a bit like my writing.
And that’s where I think vlogging could really play a part. More of an informal style, where I tell a story and lead you through my experiences to guide you. I think it would also feel a bit more personal.
But there is a problem with this.
I’m s**t scared!
I’ve never vlogged before, and I want to make sure I can still deliver valuable and informative content. So I need to just make sure that I have a good plan and format, and actually use this as opportunity to talk and get things out. Maybe this will let my personality come out a little more. it’s also a great opportunity to document my journey in a different way.
I’ve also been using my lack of ideal equipment as an excuse. But as you know, I’m waiting for a new camera to arrive, and then I’m all set to give it a go.
The other thing is that I am still so new to this that I need to work on experimenting with different styles. I’m no seasoned professional, so need to try new things and see what works and what doesn’t. It may flop completely, but then again, it may not.
But hey, there is only one way to find out…
So I will be planning some rough vlogging outlines and will get them sorted ready to record and share with you all soon!
In the meantime, if you’re intrigued by vlogging, I would definitely recommend checking out Peter’s YouTube channel, as he is phenomenal!
