Learning
I really took for granted how many amazing resources there are out there, especially free ones. Read, listen to podcasts, watch YouTube videos, just do all you can to soak up as much information and inspiration as you can.
To start with, I listened to podcasts such as the High Performance Podcast, and watched hours of YouTube videos. This helped me develop a deeper understanding of productivity and how it can be beneficial.
I then started watching more of the technology videos such as MKBHD and DailyTekk. But not just for fun (I mean I obviously enjoyed them too!) but looking at how they produce and edit their videos, what they’re doing, and how. This evolved into checking out channels such as Think Media which really helped me grow in confidence on how to set up my channel, what a thumbnail is, and how to use software to create one. All of this was before I even sat in front of a camera!
This all took time, which made me practice what I preach and ensure I became more productive so I could fit all of this into an already busy schedule. But so far, I haven’t spent a penny on any of these resources.
I guess what I’m trying to say is that you don’t have to go out and enrol of the latest course, or for 1-2-1 coaching. I mean if you can, that’s great, but you don’t have to. Make the most of these resources, and just start by consuming things that can help you. Rather than watching YouTube videos on best football goals episode 89, spend 15 minutes watching something that is also going to help you.
I love watching these guys videos or listening to podcasts, so just make it a part of your day. But there is one key difference to watching for fun and watching to learn.
Take notes
I now take notes on every video I watch, book I read. podcast I listen to. I’m fortunate that I have an iPad that I use for taking note (Notability is my all time fave!), but there is absolutely nothing wrong with using paper and pen. Just take notes of the important parts, anything that really resonates with you.
And guess what, if you’re not sure what to do, there are plenty of YouTube videos out there that will help to structure your note taking and organisation.
So, keep learning. Don’t stop, even if it doesn’t immediately jump out to you, it may provide some information or inspiration, even if it is things to avoid in the future.
