Is it time to mix things up?

Over the last few months, I’ve been working hard on my creative schedule and the habits that have helped me get my work out there.

But recently, I’ve had this overwhelming desire to mix things up. It’s been an ongoing internal battle between persevering with current plans and trying to break through the noise; or to try some new ideas, see if there are others way to make things work.

Coupled with this, is my foray into shorter form videos. The below video from Peter McKinnon looks really interesting to me, and i’m going to try some of these informal, more raw videos as a way of stepping out of my comfort zone and testing myself in different ways.

Now, my habits and schedule have worked pretty well up to this point, and I don’t want to just chuck all the progress I have made out of the window. So, I’m not going to start from scratch. Instead, I’m going to make some tweaks here and there.

So from this week:

Weekly Quote Drop

Gone as a regular.

BUT, if I see quotes, or phrases that inspire, they may form part of my short forms videos (se below).

YouTube videos

I’m not going to change the style of all of my videos, however I am going to try to mix the styles up a bit (vlogging, more formal videos, etc) dependant on what the topic of the video is. I’m also going to try get out of my comfort zone and push myself a bit more, especially in terms of production.

In terms of content, I’m also going to broaden my horizons and test out different subjects. By experimenting with these different videos, I should get more of an idea of what is going to work or not. So you can expect a bit more of the following:

  • Book reviews/highlights
  • Product reviews
  • Experiment updates

Articles

I really enjoy writing, and will definitely carry on with at least one article a week. I find a lot of solace in sitting down with my laptop and letting the words flow out of me.

But, it can be time consuming, and with all of the changes I’m envisaging I need to prioritise. So, I’ll probably be reducing down to one article a week, unless something really stands out and I feel I need to get it into a written format.

Vlogging

I’m really interested and excited by the concept of vlogging as a more informal video representation of sharing my work/thoughts.

But, I’m also s**t scared of it.

Therefore, it may take a little while, but this is definitely something that I am going to persevere with.

Short Form

Probably the biggest change of all, but again, one I’m really excited by. I’m going to follow Peter’s advice and will going for a more raw/unedited style that is all about getting information out there for people to consume as easily as possible.

The content themes will most likely be similar, but who knows. My whole thought is about testing out new styles and content themes.

So fingers crossed this all works out, but the way I see it is that nothing is forever, so why not give it a go!
